Why it matters
Search engines normally find new pages by crawling: they revisit your site from time to time and notice what changed. For pages that are not visited often, that can take weeks.
IndexNow turns this around. Your site tells search engines the moment a page is added or changed, and one notification reaches every participating engine.
Before you start
- A verified site in IndexPedia, so the key file is in place
- A sitemap with real last-changed dates
Step by step
- 1
Normally you wait
Search engines find new pages by crawling. That can take weeks.
- 2
IndexNow tells them now
One message reaches Bing, Yandex, Naver, Seznam and Yep together.
- 3
IndexPedia sends it for you
Only new or changed pages, after every sitemap change.
- 4
Google is different
Google is not part of IndexNow. IndexPedia fixes what blocks Google instead.
If something goes wrong
- Submissions return 403
- The key file cannot be read. Open yoursite.com/yourkey.txt and make sure it shows the key exactly.
- Submissions return 422
- The addresses do not match the site, for example www and non-www are mixed. Use the same host everywhere in your sitemap.
- Pages were sent but are not in Bing
- Submission makes Bing aware of the page; Bing still decides whether to index it. Check the page for thin content or blocks with a site scan.
What to do next
IndexPedia sends new and changed pages automatically on every run. To make the most of it, keep your sitemap clean and its dates honest; the sitemap checklist shows how.
