AI Profile: Tell AI Exactly How to Describe Your Business

Learn how an AI Profile gives ChatGPT and other AI tools one clear source of your hours, services and prices, plus schema markup for your own site.

When an AI assistant describes your business, it pieces the answer together from whatever it can find online. If your hours differ between two sites or your prices only live in a photo, it guesses, or it names someone else. An AI Profile gives AI one clear, consistent source about your business, written for people and for machines.

Your business profile (name, rating, hours and address) is published as a page with full schema. Google finds it through the sitemap and IndexNow sends it to Bing, Yandex, Seznam, Naver and Yep at once.

Why AI gets businesses wrong

AI assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini do not have a private database of every local business. When a customer asks about you, they search the web, read the pages they find, and write an answer. That works well when your facts are clear. It goes wrong when they are not.

Here are the usual ways it breaks, using our example, Golden Crust Bakery in Raleigh, NC:

  • Conflicting hours. One listing says the bakery closes at 5 PM on Saturdays. Another says 3 PM. AI picks one, or hedges, or leaves the hours out.
  • Services hidden in images. The cake menu is a photo of a chalkboard. AI cannot reliably read prices or flavors from it.
  • Missing answers. Customers ask "Do they do gluten-free?" or "Can I order a cake for tomorrow?" If no page answers that, AI fills the gap with a guess.
  • Thin presence. If there is little written about the bakery anywhere, AI has nothing to quote, so it names a better documented competitor.

The fix is not a trick. It is one reliable place where every important fact is written clearly and labeled so machines can read it without guessing.

What an AI Profile is

An AI Profile is a public page about your business, written for both people and machines. It states:

  • What you do and the services you offer
  • Your prices
  • Your hours
  • The areas you serve
  • Answers to the questions customers ask most

It says all of this in plain sentences, and it repeats the same facts as structured data (schema) that search engines and AI tools can read. Your profile lives at an address like /b/golden-crust-bakery on IndexPedia, and you also get the same markup to paste into your own website, so both say the same thing.

The AI Profile works alongside your website and your Google Business Profile. It does not replace them. It adds one more clear, consistent source.

What is inside the profile

LocalBusiness schema

LocalBusiness is the schema.org type for a business with a physical location or a service area. Each profile includes LocalBusiness schema with your name, address, contact details, hours and areas served. This is the same vocabulary Google and other search engines read for business details.

FAQPage schema

Your questions and answers are published in plain text and as FAQPage schema. That way the answer to "Do you make gluten-free cakes?" is written by you, not guessed by a machine.

Services and prices in text

Prices and services are written as text, not images. Text is something every crawler can read.

A listing checklist

When you build a profile from your AI Visibility Check, IndexPedia lists the websites AI relied on when answering questions about businesses like yours. Getting listed on those sites, with the same facts as your profile, raises the chance that AI finds and names you.

Here is a simplified example of the kind of markup a profile gives you for your own homepage:

schema.json
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Bakery",
  "name": "Golden Crust Bakery",
  "url": "https://goldencrust.example",
  "telephone": "+1-919-555-0142",
  "address": {
    "@type": "PostalAddress",
    "streetAddress": "120 Example St",
    "addressLocality": "Raleigh",
    "addressRegion": "NC",
    "postalCode": "27601",
    "addressCountry": "US"
  },
  "openingHoursSpecification": [{
    "@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
    "dayOfWeek": ["Tuesday","Wednesday","Thursday","Friday","Saturday"],
    "opens": "07:00",
    "closes": "17:00"
  }],
  "areaServed": "Raleigh, NC"
}

Bakery is a more specific type of LocalBusiness in schema.org. You paste code like this into a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag on your homepage. If you would rather not touch code, Auto-fix can apply schema for you.

How to build and publish your profile

You start from the free check, so most of the work is already done.

Consistency is the whole point

The single biggest thing an AI Profile does is give you one source of truth. Then you make everything else match it.

This is often called NAP consistency: your name, address and phone number written the same way everywhere online. For AI, it goes further. Hours, services and prices should also match across your website, your Google Business Profile, review sites and local directories.

FactWhere it should matchCommon mistake
Business nameWebsite, listings, profile"Golden Crust" on one site, "Golden Crust Bakery LLC" on another
HoursWebsite, Google Business Profile, listingsHoliday hours never changed back
PhoneEvery listingOld number still on a directory
Services and pricesWebsite and profilePrices only shown in a menu photo
Areas servedProfile and websiteDelivery area missing everywhere
Without a profile

AI says Golden Crust Bakery "may close early on Saturdays" and cannot say whether it makes gluten-free cakes. It names a competitor for wedding cakes.

With a profile

AI can find one page with Saturday hours, a written list of cakes and prices, and a clear answer about gluten-free options, all backed by schema the site repeats.

When your hours change, edit your AI Profile first, then update every listing on your checklist the same day. Mismatched hours are one of the easiest ways to confuse AI.

What happens after you publish

Saving any change updates the live page and its structured data at once. Keeping your facts current is one of the most useful things you can do for AI answers.

Be realistic about timing. AI tools do not all refresh what they know on the same schedule, and search engines decide when to crawl and show a page. So you will not see a change overnight.

That is where measurement helps. AI Monitoring, at $19 a month, asks the same customer questions every week and shows whether AI starts describing and recommending you differently. It is optional. The profile itself is $49 once.

Example: Golden Crust Bakery AI visibility score over six weeks after publishing
Week 1
15%
Week 2
20%
Week 3
20%
Week 4
30%
Week 5
35%
Week 6
40%

These are example numbers to show what a trend looks like. Real results vary, and they move up and down from week to week. Read Track AI mentions week by week for how to read that kind of chart.

Make sure AI can read your own site too

A profile helps most when your own website agrees with it and is open to AI search. Two quick checks:

  • Can AI crawlers reach your site? If your robots.txt or firewall blocks crawlers like OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot, AI search cannot quote your pages. A free site scan tests this.
  • Does your site carry the same markup? Paste the schema your profile gives you into your homepage, or apply it with the Fix Kit.

For a full walkthrough of the site side, see How to scan your website for Google and AI problems.

Who gets the most out of an AI Profile

  • Local businesses with a shop, office or service area
  • Businesses without a website yet, since the profile works on its own
  • Businesses whose facts are scattered across old listings
  • Owners who want to control what AI says about prices and services

FAQ

What is an AI Profile?

An AI Profile is a public page about your business, written for people and for machines. It states your services, prices, hours, areas served and answers to common questions, and repeats those facts as LocalBusiness and FAQPage schema so search engines and AI tools can read them without guessing.

How much does an AI Profile cost?

It costs $49, paid once, with no subscription. If you also want to track whether AI starts recommending you, AI Monitoring is optional at $19 a month.

Will ChatGPT recommend my business after I publish an AI Profile?

No one can promise that, and anyone who does is guessing. A profile removes the most common reasons AI leaves a business out: missing, unclear or conflicting facts. AI Monitoring shows you week by week whether the answers change.

Do I need a website to have an AI Profile?

No. The profile works on its own, which makes it useful for businesses without a site. If you do have one, add the markup IndexPedia gives you so your site and your profile agree.

Does an AI Profile replace my Google Business Profile?

No. Your website and your Google Business Profile remain important sources. The AI Profile adds one more clear, consistent source and gives you markup to improve your own site.

Can I change my AI Profile later?

Yes, any time. Edit your details and save, and the live page and its structured data update at once.
